Our youngest son and his family live and work in Chad. Yesterday was Alice’s 8th birthday, and we were able to have a good telephone connection and speak to the ‘birthday girl’ and also her brother and sisters, including Estella (20 months) who chipped in with “Hello Granny, Goodbye Granny” very clearly!
On asking Alice about her special day, I was told, “Mummy made a pink Ice Cream Cake shaped like a heart which was delicious. Given the temperature which in Chad varies from 30+ to 40+ degrees C, I said, “I bet that melted quickly.” “NO – we ate it quickly,” was the immediate reply!
I then asked if she had liked our present - swimming goggles? Yes, they had already been put into action in the swimming pool. My next question was, “What was your best present?” After a short pause to think, I was given this reply, “The Bible Mummy & Daddy gave me – it is pink and has ‘Princess’ written on it and I think it’s wonderful.”
I know Alice has a personal relationship with Jesus – she loves him and knows he loves her. I was so encouraged to see another of our grandchildren beginning to love God’s word and being taught to read it for herself.
Thursday is Olivia’s birthday, Alice’s sister, who will be 5 years old – she is a talker, and I am looking forward to her report!
